Great!!!

Wow, great beat with a nice piano melody, simple, but it works with the drums added. At about a minute this piece def. turned my head. I loved that you used some oriental sounding scales as harmony. Nice ending, works well in a loop. I felt the love very intensely. Good job. 5/5 10/10

Thanks dude! =D

nicely done

Nice vocals and harmony. Nice story-line. Nice symphony, and did I hear a choir? If I did, then nicely done, if not, I'm insane =) Nice lyrics. Very well done 5/5 10/10

MilkMan-Dan responds:

Very acute hearing mate. There was indeed, a choir. Thanks for the review.

Dude...

You got out of tune quite often. Especially in the high register. You should try to be smoother when making jumps. Also I felt that the guitars had a nice beat going, but the countermelody on a solo guitar felt a bit odd. Again, watch the high register. 3/5 6/10

ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz

With confidence probably the longest song in the competition. I thought the intro was a little overdone and too long. I thought the cricket too was overused. Was not expecting the techno at 1:33, but compared to the bell at everything else, I felt that it was too quiet. It's a nice beat, bring it out more !! I got a bit annoyed with the bells though, it got quite redundant and monotonous. 3:18 good addition of the string chords. At about 3:50 you have the same string chord being held by the strings for about 2 minutes, come on that got annoying quick, I've heard of a fermata but that's ridiculous. Nice ending though. 3.5/5 7/10

Triskele responds:

The sustained string chord was purposeful, obviously. It's a pretty common technique in liquid :>

Sorry the slow build was a bit too slow for you, but again, purposeful.

Thanks for the review :>

I've been bombed quite a bit too.

I found the bass in the beginning to be a little out of place. The violin melody I thought could've worked more with the chords. Its very simple, but there is beauty in that. The piano was very well done. I felt though that I had to strain myself to pay attention to this entire piece, not because of the length but because of its redundancy. 3.5/7.5

ChrisisD responds:

Thanks for you review! About the violin, the sound kinda sucks. I'm looking for a new sample, but having a pretty hard time finding one (for Reason 4)
Cya!

Zero pinned it

The first half sounded like the right pedal could've been held for more effect in the first half. Zero pinned it by saying the second half had more variety. If you kept it going longer, I think it could place. The beginning returning at the end I didn't think worked, you went from emotional to bland again. That very difficult to handle unless the beginning was more exciting in the first place (and I mean by emotion) 4/5 7.5/10

Well...

Hmm, at the beginning I was expecting more reggae, but o well. At 0:37 the chord progression got a tad awkward. Nice string harmony, but it did get repetitive and the violin didn't work at 1:42. In your eyes was def. the btr of the two. 3.5/5 7/10

Firebalt responds:

Thanks for the review. The intro was just a bit of filler to just add a bit of ear candy to the peice. I'm not sure what you meant by akward, it's not a pop progression and it's more a classical/progressive chord progression, the technique was taking a chord that was a minor and turning into a majour sus4, which i something you hear a lot more in classical music.

refreshing in this competition

AH beautiful latin groove. Joe Satriana and Carlos Santana would be proud. Nice electronic scales going on in the background. Although I found the second guitar to be unnecessary at 1:31. Although it provided an interesting sound throughout the rest of the piece. Nice peaceful ending too. Love the guitar technique used at the end. 5/5 9.5/10

Firebalt responds:

Thank you very much :D
Yeah the electronic sound was one of those beautiful accidents when I was playing with Sytrus and FL studio's build in Arpegiator. I basically had this really complicated synth preset and i just started stripping layers off until I found this beautiful sound.
Thanks for the review

hmmm

Kinda short. I def. felt the love. Again great acoustic job. Like the crickets and heartbeats %uF04A Thought the piano could use some work. And were you guys speaking English? Anyway, it's a good song, but I think rose-coloured hindsight def. was the btr piece of the two. 4/5 8.5/10

curriemaster responds:

It was a bit short, sort of by design ans sort of because when I recorded the guitar with longer parts it didnt fit.

Basically this was my second submission and I wanted it to be very different from the first (Rose-Coloured Hindsight). I also wanted it to be very simple: simple instruments, simple arrangement and simple composition. As I said in the comments above I was kind of going for a duet sort of feel to try and describe the relationship between two people.

Its not English, its French...my girlfriend is whispering "Je t'aime toujours" = "I love you always" and "Ecoutez...la musique..." = "Listen...the music...". Im not sure if I executed the vocals perfectly tbh but I think theyre pretty good.

Personally I like listening to this on NG because I can leave it on repeat when surfing the interwebs...I find it really peaceful and of course my gf is whispering to me the whole time :P. Thanks again for the comments :)!

Muddy are you kidding?

Wow. Very soothing. Lovely job. Ever heard of Andy Mckee? I feel the happiness and love in this piece. Liked the shaker and bongo. Nice clarinet (I think) Chills moment at 1:43. Beautiful song def. perfect for this competition. This is why I love judging!! OOOO!! Nicely done futuristic effects at 2:20. Nice chorus at 2:50 ish. Def. a fav. Now. You'll do great in this comp. I'm sure of it. Simple melody but beautifully harmonized and great percussion. Kept my attention the whole time. Great piano breakdown too. Well done ending. 5/5 10/10

curriemaster responds:

Hey dude thanks very much for the great comments. Im not sure who are the judges for this comp but I guess its awesome to get comments like this from one.

Aye Im a big fan of Andy Mckee, he does some incredible percussion work at the same time as playing guitar and definitely has his own unique style. I appreciate the comparison!

The more I listen to this track the more I like it, I put a lot of work into it and hopefully that comes through. Thanks again for the review and Im looking forward to Saturday :).

i'm an aspiring composer so if anyone listens to my music, please feel free to write a review or comment
